Muldoon’s Moment is Here: Community Invited to Shape Future of Muldoon Road

Anchorage, AK – April 20, 2026 - The Municipality of Anchorage is launching the Muldoon Road Areawide Plan, an effort to guide future improvements and redevelopment along this key corridor in East Anchorage.

Branded as “Muldoon’s Moment is Here,” the plan will focus on housing, transportation, safety, and economic revitalization—shaped directly by input from residents, businesses, and those who travel through the area.

“Muldoon is critical to Anchorage's economic strength and diversity as a major residential, commercial and transportation hub," said Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. "The Muldoon community is not only a strong neighborhood but also offers diverse commercial corridors, and important green spaces. I am excited about this plan to ensure we are building the Muldoon residents want.”

The initiative is supported in part by the Brownfields Coalition, which is helping identify opportunities to redevelop vacant and underutilized properties.

“The EPA Brownfield Coalition Assessment Grant allows us to evaluate sites that may have been overlooked and unlock their redevelopment potential,” said Michelle Nelson, Grant Development Officer. “By addressing environmental challenges, we can help create safer, more vibrant spaces that support long-term community and economic growth in Muldoon.”

Community members are invited to attend an upcoming public open house on April 21, 2026, from 6:30pm-8pm at Creekside Elementary, participate in hands-on activities, and take a quick 3-minute survey for a chance to win prizes.

Brownfield Coalition Grant

The EPA Brownfields Program is a federal initiative to help communities clean up land that may have been contaminated by past use. The Municipality has been awarded 3 Brownfield Assessment grants over the past several years. The most recent $1,000,000 Brownfield Assessment Coalition Grant award has allowed The Coalition to begin identifying priority redevelopment sites within key target areas. The EPA has approved assessment activities on fourteen sites throughout the Municipality of Anchorage. Activities include Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments. An area-wide planning effort is underway for the Muldoon Road Corridor. The Brownfield Coalition members are comprised of the Municipality of Anchorage, Anchorage Community Development Authority, Eklutna, Inc., and Habitat for Humanity.
