ACDA Secures Fireweed Properties to Boost Anchorage Housing Growth
Anchorage, AK – February 7, 2025 – The Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA) proudly announces the successful acquisition of the Fireweed properties from the Municipality of Anchorage’s (MOA) Real Estate Services. This transaction marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to enhance urban development and support community-driven initiatives in Anchorage.
The Fireweed parcels (Smith #1 Block 3 Lots 4 & 5), strategically located in a key area of Anchorage, have long been recognized for their potential to contribute to the city's economic and social growth. By acquiring these properties, ACDA aims to promote responsible redevelopment and sustainable economic expansion within the community, primarily focusing on increasing housing opportunities.
"The acquisition of the Fireweed properties is an important milestone for ACDA as we continue working toward a more vibrant and accessible Anchorage. This acquisition supports Mayor LaFrance’s 10,000 Homes Initiative, bringing more housing to Anchorage," said Mike Robbins, Executive Director of ACDA.
MOA Real Estate Services has played a key role in facilitating this transition, ensuring that the properties can be utilized for projects that align with the city's development vision. Future initiatives may include mixed-use developments, commercial expansions, or public space enhancements to serve residents and businesses alike, with a strong emphasis on creating much-needed housing options.
The Anchorage Assembly supported the sale of the property, recognizing its potential to provide much-needed housing and contribute to the city's overall development efforts.
